My Favorite Movie

My favorite movie has got to be 500 Days of Summer. I bought it last year at Best Buy for seven dollars and it is the most i have ever gotten out of that sum of money. It has been about a year and a couple of months since i got the movie and i have watched it at least 27 times. I like this movie because it is based off of actual events and it is one of the most realistic relationship movies I have ever seen. Many people consider this movie o be a “chick flick” and I don’t disagree with them but I also don’t fully agree either. This movie is about relationships which is considered a girl thing by societies standard I guess, but it is also from a man’s perspective, and it was written by a man who went through the situation in real life(somewhat). Now that I’ve gotten all of that out of the way, I will share what the movie is about.

Most movies, as we know, are not shot in order. That is also the case for this movie but what’s unique about this movie is that the story also jumps around in the wrong order. One minute Tom(Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the main character who enters a relationship with a girl named Summer(Zooey Deschanel), could be all alone in his Apartment in downtown L.A., and the next scene he could be spending time with Summer taking place many days later. This organization of the film shows what happens in their relationship and how the relationship changes over the 500 days that they are “together”.

The 500 day counter begins when Tom first sees Summer start working as his boss’ assistant at a greeting card company. Tom immediately has a crush on her but he takes a while to actually ask her out. He first talks to her in an elevator ride that they shared and she recognized the music he was listening to, The Smiths. They had many more moments after that and they eventually hang out together at a work, karaoke party at a bar. Toms friend, Mackenzie, in a drunken state, tells Summer that Tom likes her and that is when their relationship started to kick off. They have their ups and downs and eventually run into a huge downer.. I don’t want to give away the whole movie because I thin it’s really cool and I want you to just watch it for yourself.
