Okay so Saturday November 23 was the fiftieth anniversary of doctor who and they made a special episode just for it and it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. That Saturday I woke up early to my dismay because i still had to wait about five hours for the episode to air. Luckily BBC was cool enough to have a Doctor Who marathon up until the episode was shown. At approximately 1:50 pm central time, the show had begun. What I thought was really awesome is that it was 100% commercial free with absolutely no interruptions. I loved it, it was one of the happiest moments of my life.

Why was this episode so gosh darn awesome? Well first of all, Matt Smith is the actor for the doctor at this time, soon to be Peter Capaldi at Christmas time, but Matt is definitely my favorite doctor so far. Second, David Tennant, my second favorite doctor and the one before Matt, had also starred in this episode! “But Mason, how the heck did the doctor cross is own time stream and hang out with himself?” that’s a good question sir or madame, but my only answer for that is…. Timey Wimey. The rule is that the doctor should never go into his timeline but this event was so big that they did it… with all thirteen doctors. Yeah, all thirteen regenerations of the doctor showed up because this event was so big.

The episode is first about how these aliens called zygons, were trying to take over the Earth. Of course the doctor stopped them and his next mission was to help his younger self, John Hurt who played the war doctor which is the guy who committed genocide of two races, the Time-lords and the Daleks. So the three doctors, Smith, Tennant, and Hurt, came up with a plan that would prevent him from destroying his whole race but still ending the time war and the Daleks. So their plan is to trap Gallifrey, their home planet, inside of a painting using the Time-lord technology of things being bigger on the inside. To do these he would need help from all ten of his past selves… but wait didn’t i say 13? That’s right! the doctor’s future self played by Peter Capaldi shows up and he’s not supposed to appear until Christmas! Anyway the doctors win and the Daleks lose… for now.

Just kidding the Doctor will always win becuase he is the Oncoming Storm and Daleks don’t want to mess with them.

I have only two students who are what I would consider TRUE Dr. Who fans–you and one other person. I have a feeling I have “missed the boat” on this because it seems like something I SHOULD like … ! I’ll have to see if I can watch it via Hulu or Netflix.
